Christmas is fast approaching\u2026 This is an occasion when we like to look our very best. So, let\u2019s not forget to do the same for our four-legged friends because they will also be involved in the celebrations!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Dog Chef will go through the different treatments you can give your dog. Coat care, maintenance of the ears, care of the eyes, etc. Find all our advice for making your furry friend the star of the evening in this article!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\u200d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

1. Doe-eyed for the camera<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n

It is important to always take care of your doggie’s eyes, especially if he is a short-muzzled, or brachycephalic (\u00absquashed\u00bb nose), breed. In this type of dog, the tears flow outside the eye and form brownish streaks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

The best way to remedy this is to use a compress and apply physiological saline or eye wash solution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Place the pad soaked in eye wash solution over your pooch\u2019s eye going from the inner corner down to the outer corner.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Note: avoid cotton wool or make-up removing pads which can leave fibres on the eyelashes, potentially irritating the cornea.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

How often?<\/em> In breeds \u00abwith complications\u00bb, we advise cleaning their eyes twice a week on average. For other breeds, clean only when a discharge appears at the corner of the eyes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

2. Clean ears for those sweet nothings<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n

Cleaning the ears is a very important measure in terms of hygiene and prevention. If neglected, a concentration of impurities which can lead to infections can accumulate there.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

To clean them, nothing is simpler:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n
  • Pull the ear out and hold it so as to clear the cavities;<\/li>
  • Put a drop of ear solution into the back of the ear;<\/li>
  • Massage the base of the ear so that the product penetrates deeply;<\/li>
  • Wipe off the excess product with a cotton ball or a compress (non-woven);<\/li>
  • Let your pooch shake their head (take cover!) And wipe off the dirt again.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n
    \n

    How often?<\/em> We recommend that you clean the ears once a month. For dogs with floppy ears, cleaning once every 2 weeks is strongly recommended.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

    3. A good shampoo for unlimited cuddles<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n
    \n

    Does your rascal give off an unpleasant odour? There are a wide variety of causes: skin problems, digestive ailments, a stressful situation, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

    \n

    If your pooch is dirty, wash them with a shampoo that is suitable for their coat and skin type. If they are long-haired, brush them beforehand to untangle the knots.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

    \n

    Once this step has been completed:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

    \n
    • Wet their fur with lukewarm water, starting with their paws;<\/li>
    • Apply shampoo along their back, avoiding the eyes and ears;<\/li>
    • Lather the product by massaging their coat;<\/li>
    • Leave on for the time indicated in the instructions for use;<\/li>
    • Rinse thoroughly.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n
      \n

      How often? <\/em>To preserve the natural balance of their skin, a bath every 3 months is more than enough!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n

      To space out the baths, remember to brush your dog regularly in order to air their coat and regularly wash the textiles with which they are in contact (at 60\u00b0C minimum).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n

      In the case of more localised soiling, preferably use cleaning wipes for dogs or dry shampoos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n

      The advice of Dog Chef: Wipe and Clean cleaning wipes from Agriton contain micro-organisms (EM) and are very effective in washing or freshening up pooches.<\/em>\u200d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      4. A glossy coat that will be the envy of others<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n
      \n

      For an even silkier effect, apply an ultra-nourishing shampoo formulated with jojoba oil, oat milk or shea butter. Also called a \u00abcream bath\u00bb, it will close the glands of your pooch\u2019s skin and prevent impurities from entering. The advantage of the cream bath is that it softens the skin and provides in-depth nourishment for the coat.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n

      After the bath comes drying! Use a hair dryer (gentle heat) and brush the fur by extending it one area at a time in order to smooth it out. Guaranteed brushing effect!
      \u200d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n

      5. A good brushing to avoid hairs on Granny\u2019s dress<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n
      \n

      Coat care may vary depending on the type of dog. Some breeds will require more regular cleaning than others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n

      It is in the spring and autumn that your pooch will lose a large amount of fur. This is the seasonal moult. It kicks in when the seasons change and requires more extensive grooming to help your dog remove dead hair.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n

      Hair loss may be constant when the animal does not enjoy enough exposure to external light and if they go from hot to cold during their outings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n

      Remember to equip yourself with the right accessories because they can vary depending on your pooch\u2019s coat:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

      \n
      • Short-haired dog<\/strong>: use a soft boar bristle brush or a glove with rubber nubs.<\/li>
      • Long-haired dog<\/strong>: opt for a specialised metal comb or curry comb for hairballs. Pneumatic stud brushes are also effective and gentler for sensitive dogs.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n
