DIY: A recycled jar for treats!

New month, new tutorial ✂️

Do you like to give your dog little treats from time to time? If you make them yourself at home, you'll need a container. And if you buy them, we bet you're not a fan of the packaging 🙊

This month we're reclaiming empty jam, peanut butter or mayonnaise jars and turning them into something pretty to store our pooches' snacks.

Cost:
Level of difficulty:
1/5
Time needed:
about 1 hour + drying time
Equipment required:

  • An empty jar
  • A pair of scissors
  • Some sticky tape
  • A porcelain and glass marker with a fine point (1 mm)
  • A printer and a sheet of paper
  • An oven
  • Vegetable oil

STEP 1: Remove the jar labels and stickers

The easiest way to remove the labels is to soak them in vegetable oil, don't skimp on the quantity of oil. Allow to "soak" for at least 2 hours, and then simply remove the label by gently peeling it off the jar.

Then wash the jar in soapy water to remove any sticker residue and traces of food.

STEP 2: Choose the pattern

Print the message of your choice on a sheet of paper. Here we have chosen to write "Treats" in the Dog Chef font.

Decide on the right font size for your jar and cut out the word. This will act as a pattern for you to transfer.

Use the sticky tape to stick the paper directly to the inside of the jar. Please note that the self-adhesive side must be placed on the back of the written side

STEP 3: Drawing

Now that the pattern has been secured inside the jar, all you have to do is transfer the letters.

Tips: start with the outline of the letters and then fill them in.

STEP 4: Let it dry

Leave it to dry for at least 4 hours and bake your jar in a non-preheated oven for 30 minutes (160°c)

And that's it! It's as simple as that! You are now the proud creators of a recycled treat jar that you won't want to hide away in the back of a cupboard 🙊
